Casey Downie - Campbell

Creator and founder of Sensory Land • Baby Massage & Baby Yoga instructor • Messy Play Class Leader • Sound Healer • Meditation Guide • Maternity Nurse • Nanny

Casey’s background in childcare comes from her time spent working as a nanny, maternity nurse, and creche and children’s centre assistant. She began working with children when, through her love of dance and performing, she trained to be a ballet teacher in 2009. She loved working with the children but, due to an injury, was forced to stop ballet.

With an adventurous childhood, playing out in the garden making mud pies and perfume from her mum’s flowers, she had always found pleasure in stripped-back simple games. With limited access to technology, an empty cardboard box or washing basket could provide hours of entertainment for her active imagination!

Today, Casey thinks technology is a great tool for fun and entertainment, as well as education for today’s modern children. However, in creating Sensory Land, she really wanted to explore the idea of imagination, make-believe and sensory play. With the help of the Princes Trust, she trialled Sensory Land (at the time referred to as Sensory Station) as an imaginative sensory storytelling company in 2015 with Jadie. After carefully tweaking at that idea, she officially launched the business in 2017 as activity classes for children under 4. She has gone on to expand the business and bring elements that are really important to the character of the business, drawing from her experiences working closely with families as a nanny and maternity nurse.

Jadie’s career in childcare began at the early age of 16, inspired by her mother who was a childminder, Jadie loved being around children, so trained as a children’s sports coach. She went on to develop her childcare skills as childminding assistant, creche and nursery worker and later on as a nanny. She has years of experience under her belt and has worked with many twin families.

Who else is involved?

We also have a team of consultants who have worked in different forms of childcare, including a headteacher, early years teacher, family support officer, and nursery assistant to name a few. Between us, we have a wealth of knowledge in our sector which helps us to ensure that we are always providing fun, safe, and educational classes.
